Mary Catherine Wasson

Mary Catherine "Kitty" Wasson, 88, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on April 8th, 2024, at Azalealand Nursing Home with her family at her bedside, under the care of Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Richard Wasson Jr. Kitty was also preceded in death by her beloved parents, John Pettitt and Mary Dixie "Bumbie" Pettitt, along with her cherished daughter, Dianne Dimmitt.

Kitty was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, and resided in Savannah for the past 70 years. She attended New Hope Fellowship Church, formerly Grace Primitive Baptist Church.

Kitty raised three beautiful children, before finding a career in electrical fabrication at Gulfstream eventually retiring in the early 1990s.

She loved traveling every time she got the chance. Kitty had a deep love for the water, enjoying time by the pool with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her Grandma Kitty. She also loved going out in the boat to fish. Kitty was an avid gardener, tending massive gardens that included all sorts of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. She was a fantastic cook as well, making homemade biscuits, fried fish, shrimp salad, strawberry pie, and more. Her dishes became the focal point of family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.

One of her other passions was arts and crafts, she loved making things she could share with others and passed that joy onto her grandchildren and extended family. Kitty was also an avid reader having finished hundreds of books, her favorite author by far was Nicholas Sparks. Above all, Kitty's devotion to family was unwavering; she cherished every moment spent with them, eagerly sharing their stories and accomplishments with anyone who would lend an ear.
